This is a solid continuation to Sam’s story, action-packed and filled with answers to some questions while teasing even more questions that need answers. Draper also expands upon her world-building and introduces an intriguing political element to the plot line. I look forward to seeing how Sam and their “guild” play a role in Theo’s machinations.

The romantic element picks up a notch here, as well, as Sam becomes more comfortable with their relationship with Fin. It will be interesting to see the fallout of a certain series of events that included a significant amount of alcohol. However, I do appreciate that it’s not entirely clear who else will end up in Sam’s “guild” (quotations used here for an entirely different purpose) by the end of this series.

I read books 1 and 2 of this series back to back, and, alas, I’ll have to wait for book 3. I’m currently enjoying two different series by Draper during a global pandemic, so now is the time to support creators and cross your fingers for their continued well-being!

Rating: 5 (out of 5) stars. Cross-posted to Amazon and Goodreads.
