That’s actually a lie. The first draft of book 4 of the Steel Empires series, Steel Time, is done. There’s still a ton of work for me to do, including cutting at least 10,000 words of length, but I can’t fix what doesn’t exist. And now it definitely exists.

It’s been a crazy year: worldwide, in my country, and in my own personal life. Even writing this book has been a wild ride, as I confront some of my own demons in the content and attempt some things I’ve never done before in the writing itself.

But at this point, the Steel Empires series, projected at seven books, is over halfway done. I’ve also written three novels in three years, which not many people who also have full-time jobs can claim. So I’m taking this win.

No rest for the wicked, though. See those pages behind my computer? I’m hard at work on line edits for book 3, Steel Blood, at the same time! I can’t wait to share both books with all of you.

  1. Hey, editing aside, writing 4 books is an awesome accomplishment!
Do you mind if I ask how you got your books published? I’m a self published author and struggling a lot with getting people’s attention. Your books seem to have a decent amount of publicity on Amazon, or at least a lot more than mine! What’s your secret? 🙂

    1. Hi, Aul! I’m published with Dog Star Books, which is an imprint of Raw Dog Screaming Press (www.rawdogscreaming.com). The only secret is a lot of time spent on social media achieving that balance between making people aware of my books and pestering them to buy them. Being part of a community of other like-minded writers has also been helpful, because in the end, we all help support and promote each other’s work, both during the writing and publishing stages. Regarding the number of reviews I have on Amazon, I think at least half of those (esp. for Steel Magic) are the result of my publisher offering a limited number of free copies on LibraryThing. Thanks for stopping by, and best of luck with your own writing!

      1. Absolutely! One of the things I love about my publisher is that they are not afraid to take risks on nontraditional stories, so there’s a wide range of SF/F represented in this imprint. Any speculative fiction reader would be sure to find something they enjoy, whether it’s a romantic thriller (Ambasadora), a treasure hunt/murder mystery in space (The Man Who Loved Alien Landscapes), or steampunk time-travel with urban legends (The Curiosity Killers).
