Review: The Ruin of a Rake (Turner Series #3) by Cat Sebastian

This was a satisfying conclusion to the romantic tales of the extended Turner family. While I was concerned that Lord Courtenay wouldn’t appeal to me as a romantic lead after his introduction in The Lawrence Browne Affair, author Cat Sebastian proves a deft hand at hidden depths that do not negate any of the character she created in the previous novel. 

As Courtenay’s counterpart, Julian Medlock is a change of pace from the traditional. Which is ironic, because it is Julian’s greatest wish to be seen as nothing more than ordinary as he plays the game of acquiring as much societal power possible for a man not born into nobility.

It’s hard to think of romantic plots having the ability shock with a sudden twist, but this book featured a moment that made me exclaim out loud and scare all of my cats.

Sebastian’s strongest talent that makes me enjoy her stories, I think, is her ability make all of the secondary characters leap off the page. Their stories are crafted to intersect those of our heroes, not to merely support them.

Though the Turner Series appears to be over (for now), I look forward to reading more by this author.
