RDSP News Roundup

RDSP news roundupIt’s been a while since I posted, because I’ve been a bit caught up in things like writing book 4, reading lots of books, and binge-watching Orphan Black. (No spoilers, please. I’m only on season 2.) But lots has gone on in the world of my amazing publisher, Raw Dog Screaming Press, in the meantime. I figured I’d post about all of it at once here. Read on for not one, but two amazing cover reveals and news about a contest!  Continue reading

WHAT’S LEFT OF ME by Jennifer Loring

The novel will be released by Limitless Publishing, and the gorgeous artwork is from Wicked by Design. I adore the echo of the phoenix in the tattoo.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Recovering from years of living the superstar hockey life wasn’t easy, but now Aleksandr Volynsky finally has everything…

He’s married to the love of his life, expecting a daughter, and has a new job as an assistant coach with his old team, the Buffalo Gladiators. His happiness is short lived, however, when a sexual assault allegation surfaces, and Alex is forced to cooperate with an investigation for a crime he didn’t commit.

Stephanie Hartwell is juggling her dream job with marriage and motherhood, but she’s not convinced she’s doing any of it well…

Stephanie’s stress level goes from bad to worse when she’s diagnosed with a serious illness. Battling declining health and the critics who question her commitment to Alex in light of the allegation, she makes a decision that could change their relationship forever.

Alex is afraid he’s about to lose everything—especially when he sees Stephanie’s friend kiss her…

Devastated that his life is spiraling out of control again, Alex turns to his friend, Natasha, a Russian pop star. Convinced that Stephanie and her friend Brandon are having an affair, Alex resumes his self-destructive behavior.

What Alex doesn’t know is Stephanie has been conducting a secret investigation of her own. She learns the truth behind the sexual assault—a truth no one, especially Alex, expects.

With everything now out in the open, can Stephanie and Alex commit to a fresh start for the sake of their daughter, or will the ghosts of their pasts finally tear apart everything they have left?

The first book in the series, Firebird, is now available from Amazon!

Cover Reveal: STEEL MAGIC

I’m pleased to announce the official cover reveal of the second book in my Steel Empires series: Steel Magic!

The gorgeous cover art for Steel Magic

You can also preorder the book from Amazon today, ahead of the release on July 6, 2016! Don’t forget that when you buy a hardcopy of an RDSP book, you’ll also be able to download the Kindle version for free. If you’re only interested in the ebook, it will be available soon after release in July.

About the Book:

Funerals are usually the end of the story, not the beginning.

Newly graduated warrior-mages Toria Connor and Kane Nalamas find themselves the last remaining mages in the city when a mage school teacher mysteriously falls ill and dies. But taking over the school themselves isn’t in the cards. They’re set to become professional mercenaries-if they make it through the next 18 months as journeymen first.

The debate over whether to hunt mutated monsters in the Wasteland or take posh bodyguard jobs is put on hold when a city elder hires them to solve the mystery of the disappearing mages. Toria and Kane’s quest brings them to the British colonial city of New Angouleme, where their initial investigation reveals that the problem is even greater than they feared.

But when a friend is kidnapped, they’ll have to travel to the other side of the globe to save her, save themselves, and save magic itself.

STEEL MAGIC cover reveal coming soon

The official release date for Steel Magic, book 2 of the Steel Empires series and direct sequel to Steel Victory, is July 2016! This novel features the first solo adventure of Toria and Kane, journeymen mercenaries of Limani, as they embark on a magical quest.

Soon I will be hosting an official cover reveal to coincide with the announcement of the pre-order link. If you would like to participate by featuring the book cover image and pre-order link on social media (blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc.), please like this post or leave a comment and I will contact you with details soon!

Brad Sharp is the cover artist for Steel Magic as well, and I didn’t think it would be possible for him to create a cover I like more than the first. The two are very similar stylistically, while also bringing into focus the different elements and locales that make my second novel dramatically different from Steel Victory.

Here’s the gorgeous Steel Victory cover:

Here’s a teaser for Steel Magic. The colors are different! There’s no moon at the top! And…is that the tip of a sword peaking up next to the R?

I figure my name itself isn’t much of a spoiler.

Please consider volunteering to help in any small way. As an indie author, my marketing team consists of me alone, and any assistance means potentially reaching readers that I might not have found on my own. I am always happy to return the favor and do the same.

Cover Reveal: UNDERWATER FISTFIGHT by Matt Betts

My fellow Dog Star Books author, Matt Betts, is betraying his speculative fiction roots by writing for the parent company of our imprint: Raw Dog Screaming Press. The audacity! The outrage!

He’s publishing a book of…pirate poetry. Like, actual pirates. With parrots and peg legs.

“Poet. Pirate. It’s all the same really. They both pillage, plunder, drink rum, look for treasure, and sometimes, after too many drinks, they’re known to throw a right hook or two. But that’s the beauty of poetry and piracy-it’s unhinged, a stream of emotions that make you laugh, cry, bleed, bruise, and eat oranges to prevent scurvy. It’s an adventure. It’s feeling the wind on your face from the sea or the page. It’s tasting the salt in the ocean or in your tears. But most importantly, it’s the experience of getting from one port to another, one page to the next, killing one more siren and murdering just one more darling.”

It’s called Underwater Fistfight. It’s going to be AWESOME.

Check out the fantastic cover, featuring artwork by Steven Archer!

BOOKS-underwaterfisfight

There are severe lack of pirates on this cover, Betts.

Archer’s work has previously been featured on poetry collections by RDSP author Stephanie Wytovich (Hysteria and Mourning Jewelry). You can find other pieces at his Etsy store.

THE CURIOSITY KILLERS Cover Reveal!

I had the honor of proofreading the science-fiction (time travel/steampunk/murder mystery) novel THE CURIOSITY KILLERS by fellow Dog Star Books author K.W. Taylor late last year. Hands down, it is one of the best novels I’ve read within the past few years, and I’m really excited for the rest of you to get to read it soon. But for now, feast your eyes on the amazing cover by artist Brad Sharp (who also did the art for my novels, STEEL VICTORY and the upcoming STEEL MAGIC).

The blog SF Signal is hosting the exclusive reveal today, so click here to see the full cover!

COVER REVEAL: The Underside of the Rainbow by B. E. Burkhead

UndersideCover

UNVEILING THE RAINBOW

Artist Steven Archer has created a raw, textured cover to match B.E. Burkhead’s gritty, and unapologetic realism. In this poetry collection Burkhead shows readers what happens when they take off their rose-colored glasses and look at the world around them.

Instead of fields of freshly grown flowers, he writes of alleys with broken bottles and hypodermic needles, no happily-ever-afters, just blunt and honest truths, sometimes with endings, sometimes without. Just as life doesn’t hand out answers, Burkhead doesn’t sugarcoat its truths.

COMING IN JULY

You can pre-order this collection now!

“Underside took me on an unexpected emotional journey I relished long after reading. To me that’s the mark of a damn fine collection–and one that will remain in my library forever.” —Jessica McHugh, author of The Green Kangaroos

“There is a blatant honesty, an abject truth in B. E. Burkhead’s words, which is not buoyantly hateful, but bleakly hopeful.”—G. Arthur Brown, author of Kitten

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Steven Archer is an artist and musician living in Baltimore, MD.
