After attending RomantiConn last year as Rory Maxwell‘s assistant, I was thrilled to be invited as an author in 2025! This event focuses on romance, but the organizers have done an amazing job of mixing various subgenres and gender pairings. Though we were only signing on Saturday, Rory and I made a weekend of this month’s road trip, leaving after I finished work on Thursday night for the drive up to Connecticut.
Friday
As much as I love my bed and my cats, I also really love waking up on my own time and not because a small, furry creature is screaming in my face for breakfast. Instead, Rory and I spent a leisurely morning getting some writing done at a local bagel shop. After, we treated ourselves to manicures at a shop by the hotel and relaxed for a bit before our pitch sessions with an audiobook company. Stay tuned for news on that front!
We wandered through the Friday afternoon signing session and said hi to lots of familiar faces. As fantastic as it is to meet readers, I will admit that spending time with my writing community is a significant part of why I attend events such as these.
After a delicious dinner with Nora Phoenix (and how cool is it that I get to write that?), Rory and I spent the rest of Friday evening like proper introverts. That is, by retiring to our hotel room and quietly reading until bed.
Saturday
Signing day! I had the fabulous luck of being assigned a spot in the hallway between the signing rooms. I am officially spoiled forever after being able to spread out on such a huge table.
This is a long signing event, but I barely got a chance to sit down. I had a blast chatting with everyone who stopped by my table. This was also the first event where I finally got to wear this amazing shirt, twinning with Rory because she was signing in a different room.
After packing up, a large group of the other queer romance authors headed out to dinner nearby, where we had a (loud) fun meal together. I adore how welcoming this community has been since I still consider myself a new author to the genre.
We traveled home Sunday morning, already planning our next adventure!
