In August 2024, I’m excited to combine two of the loves of my life: cruising and LGBTQ+ fiction and romance. I hope you’ll consider joining me on the first Rainbow Readers Cruise! Until then, I’d love to introduce you to one of the attending authors, Evie McGlynn.
About Evie McGlynn
Evie is a new author who has always been an avid reader, mostly fantasy, science fiction and, of course, romance. After raising three children into adulthood, acquiring a master’s degree, and opening a counseling practice, she figured she didn’t have enough to do, so she decided to write books.
Evie lives “down the shore” in New Jersey with her husband, her youngest son, his fiancée, and her goofy Rottweiler. Every summer she complains about “the bennies” coming down and snarling up the traffic, but she’s a Jersey Girl through and through.
Interview
If drinks by the pool are already a given, what are you most looking forward to about the Rainbow Readers Cruise?
Connecting with other authors. I also look forward to meeting readers both new and familiar.
Which of your books would you recommend as the best way for readers to get to know you before meeting you on the cruise?
I recommend starting with my debut novel Moonlight. I am a newish author (Moonlight was published in December 2022), and it truly was a labor of love. It included many things that are important to me like music, mental health, having the strength to start again, and having someone who has your back.
Which of your characters (from any story) would you most like to go on a cruise with?
I don’t know! You’re asking me to choose between my children! I guess it would probably be Jeremy because I could listen to piano music all day and I am fascinated by talented people.
Even if you don’t use this trip as fodder for a future project, most stories require a bit of research. Can you tell us the coolest thing you’ve learned while researching for your work, regardless of whether it made it into the text?
The coolest thing I learned was during my research for my book Starlight. There is an international sky reserve in New Zealand and you can camp on the mountain under the stars with no interference from ambient light.
Hey, this is supposed to be a review blog! Recommend your favorite book that I should read and review by another author joining us on this high-seas adventure.
I love A.J. Sherwood’s Scales and Spells series (dragon shifters!) I know it’s not one book, but the series is amazing. She has a spinoff series going called Wings and Wands. I like these series because A.J.’s worldbuilding is spectacular and her characters are fully formed and complex.
Finally, what other projects are you working on currently?
I am currently working on my third novel, Sunrise. I hope to have it published by March 2024. I work full-time as a mental health counselor, so my writing time is limited. If I make my goal, I am thinking of going back and expanding my short story prequel “Sunset” into a full-length novel.
