Capclave 2026 Schedule

By

Even though author Rory Maxwell is not attending my next event, the Washington Science Fiction Association’s annual SF/F and pop culture convention, we still managed to go on a road trip this week. I’m going into this con weekend already sleep-deprived after an amazing adventure Thursday night (details to come!). I’ve accepted that we are never beating the allegations that we are attached at the hip!

Capclave 2026
October 2-4, 2026
Hilton Washington DC/Rockville Executive Meeting Center
Rockville, Maryland

Below is my official schedule. The rest of the time, don’t hesitate to reach out if you’d like to meet up for a meal, a drink, or just to chat. I’ll definitely be around more than the activities listed below!

Friday

5:00 PM: The Best 2026 SFF TV/Streaming Shows (panel; Eisenhower Room)
Twenty years after Twilight, are vampires still popular, and if so why? Or do they now suck more than just blood? What is the appeal of these monsters and why are some more popular than others? Is there anything to say about vampires that has not already been done? Is it Dracula’s Eastern European accent? The clothes? Or is blood just sexy?
-> With Perrianne Lurie (moderator), Wendra Colleen, Somto Ihezue, and D.H. Aire

6:30 PM: Do Vampires Suck? (panel; Washington Theater)
House of the Dragon, Dr. Who, Murderbot, and more. What’s the best so far in 2026 for TV and streaming? What TV channels and streaming services are best for watching SF and Fantasy? What are you looking forward to watching in 2027?
-> With Hildy Silverman (moderator), Rebecca Roanhorse, Dominick Rabrun, and Andrew Fox

Saturday

10:00 AM: Author Reading (Wilson Room)
Author J.L. Gribble reads from their recent and upcoming work.

11:30 AM: Star Trek Still Lives!: 60 years of Star Trek (panel; Monroe Room)
It’s been 60 years since Star Trek debuted on our televisions. The original series has spawned movies, multiple television shows, both live action and animated, and a huge number of novels (not to mention all the fanfiction!). Our panelists will discuss the highs and lows of Star Trek, rank the shows and movies, and discuss their favorite Trek novels. What makes Trek so appealing after 60 years? Why has it continued to survive when so many other shows are forgotten?
-> With Adeena Mignogna (moderator), Brick Barrientos, Jo Miles, and Randee Dawn

2:30 PM: Autograph Session (Dealer’s Room)
Stop by for postcards with links to free stories, bookmarks, and stickers. I will also have limited copies of all my books on hand to sell, including the full Steel Empires urban fantasy series; Earth and Water and Service Before Self, my debut paranormal and contemporary romances; and Fur and Honor and Storm and Quill, my PNR novellas.

8:30 PM: Master Autograph Session (panel; Eisenhower Room)
If you missed me earlier in the day, find me among all the other authors here!

Sunday

1:00 PM: What’s It Like to Write in Another’s Sand Box? (panel; Eisenhower Room)
Get some perspectives on being a writer when writing for existing intellectual property (Star Wars, Marvel, shared universes such as Thieves’ World). Why write in someone else’s sandbox instead of inventing your own? What’s good about it? What’s bad? How does the canon you’re writing in make the job easier or harder? How much advance guidance do you get from the IP owner? What restrictions did they place on you? If you could do it again, what would you have done differently?
-> With Bjorn Hasseler (moderator), Charles Gannon, Rebecca Roanhorse, TT Madden, and Nibedita Sen
