I’m prepping this month’s roundup from the back seat of my parent’s rental car during the great southern tour of 2024. After spending Thanksgiving weekend in Atlanta with friends, I swung by Alabama this week for my spouse’s graduation from military training, and now we’re on the way up to Nashville to visit old family friends.
If you’ll allow me a moment to brag, my life had a bit of fiction meets reality this year. The day before I released Service Before Self last summer, my husband found out he’d been accepted into the first class of the U.S. Air Force’s re-launch of their warrant officer program. He just spent 2 months at the same base in Alabama where my character Alex attends officer training school (though the spouse will argue that his training program was much, much different). I’m incredibly proud of him, and I was honored to pin on his new rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2 in a small ceremony yesterday. In this morning’s larger graduation, the Secretary of the Air Force presented his graduation certificate since this is the first group of 30 new USAF warrant officers since 1959.
The fun comes full circle, because I also learned yesterday that Service Before Self was nominated in the category of “Best Military Romance” by the Goodreads M/M Romance group! If you’re a member, please consider voting for my novel. Want a taste of my entirely nontraditional military writing, whether you’re a member or not? My M/M/M military romance story “Toward Unity” is available for free.
