Hello from Toronto! I’m bringing you this update from much farther north than usual, during the Northern Rainbow Romance Retreat. So far, I’ve attended some great sessions on queer history, cover design, and portraying characters with trauma. I’m having a blast spending time with fellow writers, and I look forward to meeting readers during the second portion of this event.
I’m focusing on the highs as much as possible these days because the previous month has been a mixed bag. The spouse learned that he is officially part of the first class of brand-new warrant officers for the U.S. Air Force. I’m so proud of him! But this means he soon leaves home for multiple months for the second time this year. The silver lining is that he was between trips a few weeks ago when we sadly had to allow one of our sweet cats to cross the rainbow bridge for a worsening chronic health condition.
Casa Siamese will be quieter than usual this fall for multiple reasons. The trick will be to use that time for writing, not playing World of Warcraft!
But first, prizes!
Shout them from the rooftops
I’m thrilled to reveal another of my secret projects! My MM military romance story To Be Bold will appear in Say Their Names, a charity anthology featuring people living and loving with HIV. The official cover reveal and full author list will be announced later this month. Proceeds from the sale of this anthology will be donated to The Names Project, which oversees the preservation, maintenance, and display of the AIDS Quilt. Preorder now to receive your copy on December 1 (World AIDS Day).
Join me in Valdemar!
My short story “Future-Proof” will be part of this year’s collection of Valdemar stories, edited by Mercedes Lackey! Following this announcement in my previous newsletter, a reader asked me to suggest where to start if you are new to the expansive world of Valdemar. One great option is the Last Herald-Mage trilogy, especially since reading the adventures of Vanyel Ashkevron in my teens played a significant role in my personal writing journey. I’m excited for you to meet Cam and Duri on November 26!
