2019 Resolution Project: Magic Bites (Kate Daniels #1) by Ilona Andrews
My 2019 Resolution Project over at my other blog, Speculative Chic, is to read the entire Kate Daniels urban fantasy series by Ilona Andrews, finishing up with a first read of the final book in the series. I’ve read the first book, Magic Bites, before, but never officially reviewed it. You can find my full review…

Review: “A Questionable Client” (Kate Daniels #0.5) by Ilona Andrews
This short story takes place prior to any of the novels in the Kate Daniels urban fantasy series. However, reading this story after reading at least the first novel, Magic Bites, works best. “A Questionable Client” tells the story of how Kate first meets one of her informational contacts, a shape-shifter called Saiman. He’s kind of…

Review: Diamond Fire (Hidden Legacy #3.5) by Ilona Andrews
This novella picks up where the last book in the Hidden Legacy series leaves off and features a surprise protagonist! As much as I adore Nevada, it was awesome to read a story from the perspective of another member of the Baylor family, and Catalina is fantastic.

Review: WILDFIRE (Hidden Legacy #3) by Ilona Andrews
This was a thrilling conclusion to a major part of the Hidden Legacy story line. Nevada Baylor’s family and her interactions with them are my one of my favorite parts of this series, and it was exciting to see plot progression on that front. For some reason, I had it stuck in my head that…

Review: WHITE HOT (Hidden Legacy #2) by Ilona Andrews
This series is a prime example for one of the major rules that applies to book buying: Don’t judge a book based on its cover (or publisher). If you’re already a fan of Ilona Andrews’ other books, there’s absolutely no reason that you won’t also enjoy this series. The romance is there to support and…

Review: MAGIC BINDS (Kate Daniels #9) by Ilona Andrews
Once again, Ilona Andrews delivers a fast-paced novel with unique characters and plenty of drama and humor. I’m a sucker for a wedding, and we’re quickly approaching Kate and Curran’s (finally!). But Kate’s evil overlord father has set up shop right outside Atlanta, and Kate has bigger things to worry about than dress fittings and…

Review: BURN FOR ME (Hidden Legacy #1) by Ilona Andrews
I really try not to be one of those people who judges a book by the cover, but I don’t think there can be any argument that the cover of Burn For Me is about the most romance cover to ever be a romance cover. I don’t care. Buy the book anyway.

Review: SWEEP IN PEACE (Innkeeper Chronicles #2) by Ilona Andrews
This particular collection of books by writing team Ilona Andrews is published as serial novels on their website. When I read the first book in the Innkeeper Chronicles, I was really afraid that it was going to be a meandering mess. However, I ate up the first book (Clean Sweep) and was happy to come back…

Review: SMALL MAGICS by Ilona Andrews
Favorite story: Because I’m always thrilled to learn more about Kate’s protege, I was delighted to read “Magic Tests” in this collection. Julie shined in this story, especially because she’s not just a miniature version of Kate. She’s been influenced by all the adults in her life, and it shows in the way she handles interpersonal…

Review: MAGIC STARS by Ilona Andrews
I know that I have about a million favorite things about this series, but two of them are definitely Julie and Derek, the foster kids/proteges of the two main characters. Watching them “grow up” and come into their own skills and powers over the course of the books has been a treat, and it was…

Review: MAGIC GIFTS by Ilona Andrews
This is a fun filler novella that takes place during Ilona Andrews’ novel Gunmetal Magic. Because so much urban fantasy/paranormal romance involves a burgeoning romantic relationship between the main characters, it’s always a treat to stop by and visit Kate and Curran. Especially when they are trying to do cute couple stuff, which always seem to…

Review: MAGIC SHIFTS by Ilona Andrews
Part of me keeps waiting for anything about this series to get stale or boring or overdone, because it can’t possibly keep being this damn good. Sure, not every novel in the series is the best thing I’ve ever read, but one thing I appreciate about Ilona Andrews (referred to as “they,” since it is…

The Real World Returns…
My husband and I are home safe from our amazing vacation. We spent a great 10 days aboard Royal Caribbean’s Grandeur of the Seas, which sailed out of Baltimore to tool around the Caribbean for a few days. The time was well-spent relaxing and recharging and just spending some quality time together before the husband…

Review: MAGIC BREAKS by Ilona Andrews
Not only is this one of my favorite books series, it is also one of the major inspirations for my own writing. So it’s no surprise that I absolutely loved and devoured this set of the series.
