Last weekend I had a great, chill time at one of my favorite SF/F conventions, Farpoint! Since this is a local event for me, a mere 20 minutes from my house, I commuted instead of staying at the event hotel. I also had a relatively light schedule, compared to most cons where I’m a presenter and/or panelist. This is not a complaint; with all the other craziness going on right now, I enjoyed the downtime.

With nothing on my schedule Friday night, I instead stayed home to share a meal with my family to celebrate my aunt and uncle’s wedding anniversary. Saturday morning, I packed up the TARDIS and hit the road.

Saturday

My single panel of the weekend focused on the topic of “On to the Next Story.” With little guidance beyond that title, my fellow panelists and I narrowed the discussion down to how we decide exactly which story idea to work on next, including all the various factors that go into that decision. After all, it’s never a lack of ideas that is the problem!

I had a big break before my author signing slot, so I took advantage of some guilt-free reading time and treated myself to lunch. I checked out the art show and dealer’s room, then caught up over quick chats with various writer friends.

The convention changed where they put the signing tables, which wasn’t great for visibility, but I still had some lovely conversations with readers (and potential readers). As usual, I’m glad that I brought copies of all my books, not just the fantasy and paranormal titles, because I always end up selling what I least expect.

Luckily, I was able to head home before the threatening bad weather, and enjoyed a quiet evening with the spouse and cats.

Sunday

All I had Sunday was another author signing slot, but I’m glad I made the trip so I could spend a little more time with friends I don’t see often enough. I definitely also spent way more money in the dealer’s room than I should have, doing my part to support the local nerd economy.

Apparently, there was a football game that evening? So, I headed home in the early afternoon, then the spouse and I went to a friend’s house for delicious food. I mostly read on the couch while they played video games with the game on in the background.
