Book Review: The Silent Prince (Sun and Moon #1) by L. Eveland
This book involves two queer heroes who eventually develop an intimate relationship with each other, but this story is far from a romance. Eveland excellently balances that line between telling an epic fantasy story that happens to involve queer characters and having their queerness be essential to the story without tipping the storyline toward overt…

Book Review: The Ashes of Ackonir by Jennifer Cody
Cody is one of the most imaginative authors I know, so I already knew I was in for a wild ride when I learned she was working on a romance set in a steampunk/fantasy world. The notes at the front of the text are useful, but Cody also includes enough useful details in the first…

Book Review: A Glint of Steel and Roses (Flame & Shadow #2) by L. Eveland
Read my review of the first book in the Flame & Shadow series, A Dream of Flame and Shadow. This book launches right in the middle of the action, catching us up with what we missed with Cian and Hellion already off to war at the end of the previous book. Our three heroes aren’t…

Book Review: Flamesworn (Immortals Descending #5) by Iris Foxglove
Read my reviews of previous books in the Immortals Descending series: Storm Front (#1) | Shadowfall (#2) | Daybreak (#3) | Tempest (#4) One of the (many) things I love about this series is how the authors take risks with their storytelling. Sticking with stand-alone books might be a safer way to entice readers, but even this series of…

Book Review: A Throne and a Crown (Riehse Eshan #4.5) by Adelaide Blaike
Read my reviews of previous books in the Riehse Eshan series: A Knife and a Blade (#1) | A Whisper and a Breath (#2) | A Shadow and a Storm (#3) | An Oath and a Promise (#4) Did this epic series need an extended epilogue? Probably not, because we already got to see the events that truly mattered…

Book Review: Tisak (Kingdoms of Pelas #2) by Michelle Frost & Michele Notaro
Read my review of the first book in the Kingdoms of Pelas series, Zyon. This book picks up immediately after the events of the first, in which our heroes are fleeing their life of slavery and searching for the “Resistance.” While not everything is perfection, the opening third of this story features plenty of good…

Book Review: Knight of Staria (Starian Tale) by Iris Foxglove
Read my reviews of other books set in the world of Staria. I’ve been addicted to every book set in this expansive and unique fantasy world since reading the first installment, The Traitor’s Mercy. I was incredibly impressed that two additional books featured redemption arcs for villains in the first book that absolutely worked, leaving…

Book Review: An Oath and a Promise (Riehse Eshan #4) by Adelaide Blaike
Read my reviews of previous books in the Riehse Eshan series: A Knife and a Blade (#1) | A Whisper and a Breath (#2) | A Shadow and a Storm (#3) I first found this series in a bit of a sweet spot, soon after the third book was released. That meant I got to binge-read everything available…

Book Review: Dominion (Triad #3) by Cari Z
Read my reviews of previous books in the Triad series: Alliance (#1) | Endurance (#2) In this conclusion to an excellent epic fantasy trilogy, Z once again pulls no punches when it comes to making things complicated for her characters on all fronts. After working so closely together in the previous book, with all the…

Book Review: A Dream of Flame and Shadow (Flame & Shadow #1) by L. Eveland
I was immediately intrigued by this dark fantasy, especially with the added realization as I got further into the story that the brief glimpse I had of the human realm felt so much darker than the land of nightmares. Once I encountered the twist that the lord of nightmares needs some sort of help from…

Book Review: Endurance (Triad #2) by Cari Z
Read my review of the first book in the Triad series, Alliance. Though I may have felt like the romance arc didn’t get the attention it deserved in the first book of this trilogy, I was more than happy to suspend disbelief and go along with Symon, Deyvid, and Petur being happily in love now…

Book Review: Alliance (Triad #1) by Cari Z
The openings of epic fantasy stories can often be either overwhelming or too spare in the details, but Z hits the perfect balance of worldbuilding and backstory in the first chapter without any sort of info dump. I got a good sense of Symon and his immediate circumstances enough to feel invested in his character…

Book Review: How I Stole the Princess’s White Knight and Turned Him to Villainy by A.J. Sherwood
This post includes reviews of all individual installments of the How I Stole the Princess’s White Knight and Turned Him to Villainy series. Miracle 1 The author admits to this project being “crack” in the back cover description, so I went in anticipating humor and ridiculousness. I was not disappointed, and I enjoyed myself even…

Book Review: Tempest (Immortals Descending #4) by Iris Foxglove
Read my reviews of the previous books in the Immortals Descending series: Storm Front (#1) | Shadowfall (#2) | Daybreak (#3) Part of me feels like I’ve already gushed about this series as much as I possibly can, but then the authors give me another twist that adds layers to this excellent epic fantasy world. Good fantasy makes…

Book Review: Riehse Eshan Series by Adelaide Blaike
This post includes reviews of the following books in the Riehse Eshan series: A Knife and a Blade (#1) | A Whisper and a Breath (#2) | A Shadow and a Storm (#3) A Knife and a Blade (Riehse Eshan Book 1) This novel is the first in a series that looks like it will…

Book Review: Daybreak (Immortals Descending #3) by Iris Foxglove
Read my reviews of previous books in the Immortals Descending series: Storm Front (#1) | Shadowfall (#2) The latest book in this fantastic series gives off some pretty distinct horror vibes at the start, but only to evoke the proper mood for what haunts Cillian throughout the rest of the book. He is an unwitting victim in…

Book Review: Zyon (Kingdoms of Pelas #1) by Michelle Frost & Michele Notaro
Frost and Notaro don’t hesitate to throw readers right into the action at the beginning of this book, in which we experience a drastic change in Theon’s life, but like him, have no idea about the reason for it. Even though the book description telegraphs his eventual (happier) circumstances, I felt his same visceral fear…

Book Review: Fate in Suspension (Horn & Haven #1) by Archer Kay Leah
I don’t often take chances on books like this one, but it had too many elements that interested me to resist, so I indulged myself specifically for a vacation read. I have zero regrets after the fact, and I’ve added this author to my watch list for further installments to this series. Books in which…

Book Review: Shadowfall (Immortals Descending #2) by Iris Foxglove
Read my review of the first book in the Immortals Descending series, Storm Front. Like the previous book in this series, this one starts with a fascinating origin story. This time, it’s not the origin story of a god, but of the inciting event to his evolution. Foxglove kicks us off with lots of questions,…

Book Review: Storm Front (Immortals Descending #1) by Iris Foxglove
I started reading the books set in this fantasy world because I was interested in how the authors play with the biological power exchange facet. Now that I’m happily sucked into the third series, I’m almost entirely here for the worldbuilding and amazing characters and relationship they have developed. The power exchange bit is a…
