daily grindDisclaimer: I consider the author a friend and have promoted her projects on my blog. However, I purchased this ebook for full price.

This novel was sweeter than the others in the series, but certainly no less hot for it. Brian and Rob go through a much more traditional meet-cute and love story, with the added twist that this is the first time Brian is going through these steps with another man. Watching his character explore new things, both in life and business, was rewarding as a reader. That’s not to say I didn’t want to smack him upside the head a few times! But the promised happily ever after is still delivered.

Possibly one of the most refreshing things about this novel was finally a hero without a tortured history. Brian’s career might be eating his life, but it’s not soul-sucking, he doesn’t have tragedy and horror littering his past, and we even get to meet his very cool and loving family. Despite all of this utter normalcy, Zabo still creates a compelling and endearing character that you can’t help but root for.

As with all romance stories, there has to be that dark moment where you question the happily ever after. This was the first book in the series where I actually doubted the inevitable happy outcome, and I have no complaints about that! Perhaps because of how this book differed in how realistic everything was — personalities on equal footing rather than aspects of dominance/submission, and no cross-country beat-the-odds reunion. This was a peek into real life, and real life doesn’t always work out so neatly.

After splurging on this series so quickly, now I have to wait with everyone else for the next installment. I can’t wait to see who gets his love story next, whether it’s a character we’ve already met, or a new introduction to this very cool romance world.

Rating: 5 (out of 5) stars. Cross-posted to Amazon and Goodreads.
